US greenhouse gas emissions show signs of slowing down, but not fast enough
US greenhouse gas emissions increased by about 1.3% in 2022, rebounding for the second year in a row after disruptions caused by the pandemic in high-emitting industries like shipping and travel. That's according to a preliminary analysis by the Rhodium Group, a research company that tracks annual emissions and US progress toward its climate goals. Emissions fell by around 10.6% in 2020 as the US acknowledged the consequences of the pandemic. As the economy picked up in 2021, so did US greenhouse gases, rising 6.5%.
