pittsburgh pirates Prospect Travis Swaggerty revealed Wednesday that his wife was diagnosed with an “extremely rare” and “painful” blood disease more than a year after she was attacked by a rabid raccoon.
Swaggerty, who is a gardener for the Triple-A Pirates affiliate Indianapolis Indians, shared a lengthy message on his Twitter asking for “support and prayers” as his wife, Peyton Swaggerty, undergoes additional treatment for her condition.
“Tomorrow my wife Peyton is heading to the Mayo Clinic (with Sutton, her parents and nana) after being attacked by a rabid raccoon over a year ago and thrown a lot of guesswork and medicine at her.

“She has now been diagnosed with an extremely rare and painful blood disease that has completely taken over her body,” he continued.
“It has plagued her with pain and unresolved issues and has completely taken away her quality of life. I wanted to share this to ask for your support and prayers for her, as well as to remind everyone not to take anything in this life for granted, especially the little ones.” things. The couple married in December 2020 after meeting at the University of South Alabama, where Swaggerty played college baseball.
Swaggerty shared an additional message on social media Wednesday, adding that his wife “always makes sure to be a mom first,” regardless of her condition.
“She fights against everything she feels to be the best mother she can be.”

Swaggerty was drafted by the Pirates in 2018. He made his MLB debut last season in a game against the detroit tigers in June 2022 before being shipped back to Indianapolis later that month.
