“Everything Everywhere All At Once” led with 11 nominations as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its nominations for the 95 Oscars on Tuesday.
The film earned nominations for best picture and best director, and its stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan earned nominations for best performance by an actress and best actor in a leading role.
Ten films were named as contenders for the coveted best picture award: «All Quiet on the Western Front,» «Avatar: The Way of Water,» «The Banshees of Inisherin,» «Elvis,» «Everything Everywhere All At Once» «The Fabelmans», «Tár», «Top Gun: Maverick», «Triangle of Sadness» and «Talking Women».

Voting for the nominations ended on January 17, and 9,579 academy members were eligible to vote. according to Variety. The academy said it had a «record turnout» for this year’s nominations, Variety reported.
There are 23 categories.
Angela Bassett was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for «Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,» along with Hong Chau in «The Whale,» Kerry Condon in «The Banshees of Inisherin,» and Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu, both for their roles in “Everything everywhere, all at once”.
Bassett has already won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress for her role in the «Black Panther» sequel, and is also nominated for a BAFTA, Britain’s equivalent of the Academy Awards, in that category.
«The Banshees of Inisherin,» «The Fabelmans,» «Avatar: The Way of Water,» «All Quiet on the Western Front» and «Top Gun: Maverick» also dominated the nominations.
Austin Butler earned a best actor nomination for his portrayal of Elvis Presley, joining Colin Farrell for «The Banshees of Inisherin,» Brendan Fraser for «The Whale,» Paul Mescal for «Aftersun» and Bill Nighy for «Living.»
Best actress nominees were Cate Blanchett in “Tár”, Ana de Armas for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in “Blonde”, Andrea Riseborough in “To Leslie” and Michelle Williams in “The Fabelmans”, opposite Yeoh.
Up for best director are Martin McDonagh for «The Banshees of Inisherin,» which earned nine nominations, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert for «Everything Everywhere All At Once,» Steven Spielberg for «The Fabelmans,» Todd Field for «Tár.» and Ruben Östlund for “Triangle of Sadness”.
No women made it to the list of best directors.
The films «Till,» starring Danielle Deadwyler, a historical drama about Emmett Till’s mother’s quest for justice after her son was lynched in Mississippi in 1955, and «The Woman King,» starring Viola Davis, which centers on a group of warrior women who protect the African kingdom of Dahomey.
No women of color made the best actress list.
Rihanna entered the shortlist for best original song nominations for «Lift Me Up,» which appears on «Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,» along with Lady Gaga for «Hold My Hand,» which appears on «Top Gun: Maverick.» But Taylor Swift’s «Carolina,» which appears in «Where the Crawdads Sing,» was turned down even though it was nominated for Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.
The nominations come just weeks after the Golden Globes returned to the air. «The Banshees of Inisherin,» a story of two friends who quarrel on a remote island in Ireland in 1923, took home the award for best motion picture, musical or comedy. It was the most nominated film at the Golden Globes, with eight nominations. The final award of the night – best dramatic film – went to Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical «The Fabelmans.»
Last year’s Academy Awards ceremony caused widespread outrage after Will Smith, who took home best actor for «King Richard,» slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada. Pinkett Smith. Smith apologized to the academy and to Rock. He later resigned from the academy, which announced that it would ban him from attending the award show for 10 years.

Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel will return as the hosthis third time at the helm of the ceremony, which he directed in 2017 and 2018.
The 95th Academy Awards will be televised live on ABC on March 12 from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
