The legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla provided a statement on October 1st, addressing the allegations reported by various media outlets in Panama.
These publications have been qualified as attacks with particular economic interests, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional reputation and personal life.
Carlos Carillo, a representative of Castillo’s legal counsel, stated: “The claims are baseless and aim to obstruct the career of a young attorney, along with that of her associate, to serve concealed financial agendas.”
The legal defense of Odila Castillo
The defense emphasized that this is not the initial media onslaught that Castillo has encountered. In 2021, a Panamanian outlet mistakenly broadcast news of an alleged arrest of the attorney linked to an investigation, a claim that was promptly refuted, clarifying that it bore no connection to the actual events in question.
In the press conference, the defense indicated that both the recent allegations and those from 2021 have been grounded in half-truths, aimed at sabotaging her professional practice.
Furthermore, they contended that the information released regarding Odila in the media violates confidentiality principles. They clarified that a portion of the investigation stemmed from a family matter that has already been resolved, while another aspect involves immigration activities and tax filings, along with other information obtained unlawfully.
Unauthorized monitoring of Odila Castillo
It was also mentioned by the defense that Castillo has been subjected to GPS tracking, which represents a type of unlawful monitoring.
Carrillo wrapped up by asserting: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as outlined by our Constitution and the law. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to hold accountable those responsible for the harm inflicted and any potential harm that may arise.”
