Two people have been arrested in South Carolina and charged with attempting to smuggle illicit drugs under a fake pregnancy bump, authorities said.

Deputies spoke with Anthony Miller and Cemeka Mitchem last month during a traffic stop, where Mitchem appeared visibly pregnant, Anderson County Sheriff’s Department. saying sunday oron Facebook.

Deputies observed Miller, who was driving, weaving through traffic on Interstate 85 and nearly colliding with an 18-wheeler, the sheriff’s office said. Upon being separated and speaking with them, the couple allegedly gave officers conflicting information about Mitchem’s due date.

«When Mitchem realized that deputies were becoming increasingly suspicious of his contradictory story, Mitchem immediately ran outside and very quickly drugs fell out of the fake rubber stomach,» the sheriff’s department said.

The arrest happened in April, but the sheriff’s office didn’t announce it until Mother’s Day.

Deputies discovered more than 1,500 grams of cocaine during the stop, the sheriff’s office said.

Inmate records show Miller and Mitchem were denied bail and remain in custody. It is not clear if they have lawyers.
