In this 2023 it will decrease one hour and so gradually until 2026. In other words, in 2024 there will be 46 hours of weekly work; in 2025, 44 hours; and in 2026, 42 hours. This does not imply a decrease in salary nor does it affect the rights acquired by workers, as expressed by law.

The police and military are governed by other regulationsAs explained by Iván Camilo Jiménez, lawyer and professor at the Labor Observatory of the Javeriana University, for EL TIEMPO.

The same way, does not apply to public employees of the Ministry of Defense and the National Policefor whom decree 1214 of 1990 establishes a daily working day of eight hours.
For which other employees does the reduction in working hours not apply?
The first group of workers who are excluded from the reduction are those who do not comply with the legal maximum working hours. That is to say:
“Those who reside in their workplace, those who work intermittently (those who work for a few days and then rest, such as bodyguards) and trustworthy management workers,” said attorney Jiménez.
The law also contemplates three other exceptions. The first groups Colombians who work in “especially unhealthy or dangerous” areas. In that case, the Government can determine how the reduction in hours will be made effective.
