Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) improve vehicle safety, both for its occupants and other road users. The most advanced can take control in certain circumstances to avoid a loss or minimize its consequences.

The systems react in tenths of a second while a person, under normal conditions, can take between 1 and 2 seconds to act on the vehicle’s controls. According to statistics and tests to reduce the risk of loss by 57 percent.
Below we will tell you how some of these systems work and what they are for, which are mandatory from the factory in many countries. In ours, models that already incorporate them are sold, but they are expensive. Until now in Colombia, only the ABS system, the driver’s airbags (airbag), and headrests are mandatory in all seats.
ABS: anti-lock brake system. It allows the driver to maintain control over the vehicle’s trajectory during sudden or emergency braking, with the possibility of avoiding obstacles by turning the steering wheel. ABS prevents the wheels from locking and skidding when braking.
EBD (Electronic Breaking Force Distribution System). It is a system that associated with ABS; distributes the braking force between the wheels.
CVT: Continuously Variable Transmission or continuous variable transmission. It is the automatic gearbox based on the continuous modification of the relationships through variable diameter pulleys.

ACC: Automatic Cruise Control. It maintains a speed set by the driver automatically, without the need to continue accelerating. To avoid danger, the system deactivates and stops working as soon as the driver presses the brake or clutch pedal.
DSTC: Dynamic Stability and Traction Control. System that prevents loss of control in curves, independently braking the wheels.
HDC: Hill Descent Control. Hill descent control.

PDC: Parking Distance Control. Light or acoustic signal that warns the driver of the presence of obstacles during parking manoeuvres.
TPMS: Tire Pressure Measurement System. System that controls the air pressure in the tires.
Lane Change Assist: Alerts the driver when you unintentionally leave the lane or when you change lanes without indicating it. The system monitors the position of the vehicle and helps you to correct the trajectory. Its objective is to make the driver aware that he is in danger of crossing the line. It is imperative for its operation that the lane demarcation lines are clearly marked as their effectiveness is reduced if the camera and computer cannot ‘read’ them. .

Adjustable suspensions: The driver can choose between different types, for example, a firm suspension for sporty driving, or a more comfortable one for long journeys. This system is associated with the driving modes, according to which the suspensions are ‘lengthened’ or ‘shortened’.
Driving modes. With the push of a button, the electronics offer several driving possibilities: ECO, Normal or Comfort and Sport. In sport mode, the engine delivers all available power more quickly. The suspensions and gear ratios are ‘shortened’ and the steering becomes stiffer and more direct for greater security. Its use requires more attention and skill behind the wheel.
