While for all workers, the unemployment rate dropped from 3.6 percent in November to 3.5 percent in the last month of the year, for Hispanics it went from 4 to 4.1 percent.

For this population, the lowest level of unemployment had occurred in September, with 3.9 percent, and during 2022 it maintained a downward trend, after registering 4.8 percent in December 2021.
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, who presented the figures this Friday, among the largest groups of workers, in December the unemployment rate for whites fell to 3 percent. Among blacks, unemployment was 5.7 percent, and among Asians, 2.4 percent.

Likewise, unemployment for adult men was 3.1 percent, and for adult women, 3.2 percent, while for young people it was 10.4 percent.
Immigrant workers have been favored because for the past two years, labor has not been enough for the US economy. According to the Fed Chairman, the US central bank., quoted by AFP, there is a «structural» shortage of four million people.
The figure —says the agency— is explained by retirement withdrawals since the start of the pandemic, by the million and a half deaths from coronavirus and insufficient immigration due to the restrictive policy of the Trump administration, to which was added the closure of borders for a year and a half for the COVID-19.
