There are collectors willing to pay large sums of money in order to obtain important pieces within their collections. It is known that there are Colombian coins valued at up to 100 and 200 million pesos, however, there is one that cost more than double, about 500 million.
The eight escudos coin dating from the year 1755 –and which was rediscovered at the beginning of this century – contains the effigy of Ferdinand VI, who at that time was King of Spain.
As explained EFEBefore that time, the coins in our country, which used to be a Spanish colony, had a rounded but irregular shape and it is this coin that begins to take on the perfect round shape, which means that it was one of the first to be minted with a flying press by the Spanish crown in the first factory located in Santa Feterritory that today is Bogota.
(Also: The $8 coin worth one hundred and eighty million pesos: the most expensive in the country).

This was one of the first to be minted with a flying press by the Spanish crown in Santa Fe.
