The tender for expansion works of the Cartagena airport was opened – Sectors – Economy

The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) opened the tender to award the expansion works of the Rafael Núñez Airport in Cartagena in order to continue betting on national and international tourism.

In addition, with this Private Initiative (IP) it will be possible to meet the growing demand for passengers in the Caribbean region and improve infrastructure conditions and operation of the airport at the service of the people.

«One of the first tasks we set ourselves is for Cartagena to have an airport at the level of other airports on the continent for the benefit of tourism and of this city so loved by all. For this reason, we are pleased to announce the start of the tender”, said William Camargo, president of the ANI.

This project includes a new international terminal that will have 17,360 square meters, the main platform will be expanded to 99,770 square meters and the remodeling of the current terminal will be carried out for a total of 25,144 square meters that will be intervened.

The object of the project consists of the financing, construction, operation, maintenance and reversal of both the airside and the landside of the Rafael Núñez Airport. The investment in the work of this initiative is 490,000 million pesos (December 2020 values).

With this, the award schedule begins its final stage and next May the process will be closed with the submission of offers from potential interested parties and the schedule of the public bidding for the contract award mid-year.

It is hoped that with this initiative 13,741 direct jobs are generated, indirect and induced and with this, that local labor is promoted. This project estimates a pre-construction stage of one year and a construction stage of 2.5 years, while the concession period is 8.5 years.

In 2022, the Rafael Núñez Airport mobilized more than 7.21 million passengerswhich represents a recovery of 125 percent compared to 2019, in which 5.77 million travelers were mobilized.
