The port of Tumaco will guarantee the supply for the south of the country – Sectors – Economy

After the landslide that occurred on January 9 on the Popayán-Pasto highway, the Sociedad Portuaria Regional Tumaco Pacific Port is ready to meet the cargo demand that is required in order to supply the departments of cauca and nariño and the entire south of the country.

«Fulfilling the mandate of President Gustavo Petro to reactivate and strengthen the fluvial and maritime mode, from the ANI we are making every effort so that the port of tumaco has all the capacities and provide the supply to this region of the country after the emergency at kilometer 75 of the highway,” said William Camargo Triana, president of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI).

In this sense, the Tumaco Pacific Port Regional Port Society has 6,000 square meters of storage warehouses3,000 meters of general cargo yards and a total of 33,000 square meters of the port available to cargo operators and thus be on the side of all the communities that are being affected by this landslide.

The cargo that moves through this port is liquid bulk (vegetable oil and mineral oil and such as gasoline, diesel, fuel alcohol (ethanol), biodiesel, fuel oil, crude and Marine diesel or extra gasoline) and solid bulk cargo of fertilizers and cereals, except coal. In addition to miscellaneous loads (containers) that the region produces such as cocoa, rice, coconut, potatoes, vegetables, among other food and groceries for internal consumption.

In the same way, it is highlighted that previously the port of Tumaco has been used to guarantee the supply of the southwestern part of the country with loads such as liquid fuels and liquefied petroleum gas.

According to the port, the entry of the aforementioned cargoes is expected from different port areas of the country such as Buenaventura, Cartagena, Santa Marta and Barranquilla.

The arrival of cargo corresponding to agricultural products from the department of Nariño is also expected, which can be distributed to the rest of the country through the different port areas of Colombia.

Currently, this port generates about 130 direct and indirect jobs and between 2021 and the first semester of 2022 they mobilized more than 150,000 tons, according to data from the Superintendency of Transportation. The programmed investment is 5 million dollars.

Among the general capacities of the port is the fuel storage system of 8,992 tons, a multipurpose storage system with a heating system of 2,500 tons, the dock of 184.3 meters – 15 meters wide and an area for public use of maneuvers of 48 square meters.
