The best-selling motorcycle brands in Colombia in 2022 – Sectors – Economy

Despite the fact that in 2022 more motorcycles than ever were registered, the slowdown of the Colombian economy is beginning to impact their sale in the country as new registrations have been declining for four months.

According to Runt figures and Andemos calculations, in 2022 822,617 new motorcycles were registeredwhich represents a growth of 10.9 percent compared to 2021.

For each vehicle that was registered during the past year in the country, 3.1 new motorcycles went into circulation, higher than the historical figure of 2021, when the ratio was 3.0.

However, sales in December fell 19.2 percent compared to the previous year, as occurred in November (-1.6 percent), in October (-9.3 percent) and in September (-5 .5 percent).

Bajaj, the best-selling brand

By 2022, Bajaj has established itself as the leading brand in the market, regaining leadership in the number of registrations with 140,639. Second place went to Yamaha (131,412), followed by AKT (115,478), Suzuki (103,378) and Victory (93,215). Behind was Honda (86,208) and Televisions (63,829).

Funza and Sabaneta, with more registrations

By cities, Funza and Sabaneta were the ones with the highest number of motorcycle registrations in 2022 with 59,665 and 53,495 throughout the year, respectively.

It is followed by Soacha with 39,034, Florida with 38,192 and Madrid with 25,302. The municipality of Girón obtained 24,173 registrations and that of La Estrella another 22,407.

Combustion vs. Electric

By technology, 819,929 combustion and 2,688 electric motorcycles were registered in Colombia last year.

«This segment has enormous potential to be electrified since they are the dominant vehicle in the automotive fleet. By making this transition, a contribution could be made to reducing polluting emissions, decarbonization and reducing fuel consumption,» said Oliverio Garcia, president of Andemos.
