The sale of vehicles has had challenges in recent years, after the difficulties caused by the covid-19 pandemic coupled with inflation and the increase in interest rates. Colombians may be somewhat cautious when applying for a loan to buy a new car.
Whoever ventures to buy a car also analyzes the taxes and whether they will be able to circulate most days, depending on the restrictions due to the peak and license plate. So many opt for electric cars, which get some exceptions for being environmentally friendly.
In this sense, the specialized firm Focus2move analyzed data from 162 countries and concluded: «Although the automotive industry is rapidly transforming towards electrification and new models of electric vehicles are increasing in the world ranking of best sellers, it is difficult to push traditional models off the top of our Top 100 ranking list.”

The best-selling cars in the world in 2022
From the Focus2move report, the best-selling vehicle in the world during the year 2022 was the Toyota Corolla for its more than one million units. Of Japanese origin, it has remained in the top places since 2020.
The second best seller, with 871,220 units, was the Toyota RAV4, making it the most requested SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle in Spanish) worldwide.
The Ford F-Series pickup reached third place with 786,303 units. According to the aforementioned firm, it is the best-seller in all of North America.

The only electric vehicle that appears on the list is manufactured by the company of tycoon Elon Musk: it is the Tesla Model Y. With two independent electric motors and the automatic driver function, they reviewed 758,792 units sold in 2022.
Toyota has other cars in the ‘top’. The Toyota Camry is in fifth place with 676,845 units. In sixth place is the Honda CR-V (602,675 sales); seventh place goes to the Chevrolet Silverado (591,594 sales); in eighth, Hyundai Tucson ((565,100 sales); and in ninth, Toyota Hilux (564,759 sales).
The tenth position of the Ram Pick-up, a truck of American origin, which obtained 545,423 units sold in 2022.

The international ‘ranking’ differs from the best-selling cars in Colombia during the past year. In fact, according to an analysis by ‘Revista Motor’, the Suzuki Swift was preferred by Colombians with 12,033 unitsfollowed by the Renault Duster (10,664 units) and the Chevrolet Onix (10,117 units).
