Taxis: follow the conversation to calculate costs for drivers – Sectors – Economy

At the beginning of this month, the Government informed taxi drivers that it could not freeze the price of the gasoline rate to compensate for the increase in the cost of fuel, what appeared disagreement among the members of the union and set off the alarms for an imminent national strike.

Given this and in order to calm them down, the Minister of Transportation, William Camargo, He previously spoke of raising the taxi fare, a measure that sought precisely to accommodate the variation in the cost of gasolinewhich to date has reached about 3,789 pesos.

However, the increase in service could not be indiscriminate. For this reason, and to give some guidelines on how the strategy should beCamargo explained what would be a dynamic rate that understands the behavior of national mobility.

Specifically, I said that the value would depend on the demand for passengers and the supply of vehicles, that is, the higher the demand, the higher the value. However, the benefit would not be exclusive to taxi drivers, but also to citizens. In big cities like Bogotá, where people move to go to their places of study or work during peak hours, taxi drivers are busier and there is a lot of congestion.

To solve this, Camargo indicates that it is necessary to encourage the movement of drivers to areas of high demand and that they can mobilize people who have more eagerness, This could be solved if a factor is implemented that generates additional charges or prevails according to passenger demand, that is, that in peak hours the hourly rate has a higher value than in the valley.

This factor could also be taken into account in “specific periods of the year or situations such as holidays, vacations, events, predetermined hours, area or sector of the jurisdiction with special characteristics, areas defined by high or low congestion or suburban areas, or other situations that increase the demand for the service; as long as they are part of the mode of transport”read read in the project of the Ministry.

This would change the rules for the union and would provide relief for the increasing cost of fuel; however, Until now, the National Government has only presented a draft resolution regarding the calculation of the cost structure of the drivers in order to agree with the different municipalities of the country.

the minister that this is still pending and the month that had been given to implement the increase could be extendedbecause they are waiting for these talks to progress.

It should be noted that in the resolution that is under discussion indicates that drivers should take variable costs into account, among which are fuel, lubricant, tires, maintenance and station services, as well as the fixed ones corresponding to garage, bearing, taxes, insurance, technical-mechanical revision. Telecommunication systems, driver’s salary and social benefits.

In addition, they must integrate capital costs, associated with its recovery and profitability. Also, this structure must be in line with a methodology that includes the analysis of the vehicle fleet and the operating parameters by level of service.
