Sex workers will present proposals for the labor reform – Economy

Recruitment schemes, work days, safety and health risks at work and protection against harassment and violence to which they are exposed are some of the topics that the spokespersons for sex workers request to analyze and include in the labor reform that the National Government is building.

These issues, plus the completion of a national census of people in Colombia who are engaged in the so-called sex industry, were recently discussed at a meeting that the spokespersons for people engaged in prostitution held with the Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez. , in Cartagena.

The leaders of the sex workers hope that the points reviewed with the presidential collaborator will be part of the labor reform, which will be presented to the Congress of the Republic on March 16.

“As a government of Change, we are not only ensuring the rights of sex workers, but also complying with an order from the Constitutional Court. To advance in this purpose from the direction of fundamental rights of the Ministry, we met with representatives of Unions and Guilds, who from the social dialogue where the ILO also participated, identified five fundamental points among them, the possibility of creating a consultation and dialogue table on the regulation of sex work and Implementing prevention and inspection mechanisms to identify the type of labor relations that are exercised”, Minister Ramírez explained.

It should be remembered that the Constitutional Court will harm regularizing the activity of sex workers in Colombia. The Minister of Labor said that they will comply with the decision of the Constitutional Court and, in addition, they will ensure the rights of these workers.

According to the Ministry of Labor, the National Government is advancing with dialogues with different sectors to prepare the text of the labor reform, but the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) sent a series of recommendations in which they recall that the regulations must comply with international standards, in addition to prioritizing the rights of workers.
