Ruta del Sol: this is the state of roads and highways in the country – Sectors – Economy

The Christmas and New Year season once again revealed the poor condition of the roads that are part of Route of the Sun 2. For months there have been frequent gaps that make it difficult for vehicles to pass through this corridor, which in the past was in the hands of Odebrecht.

To improve its current conditions, in December 2022 the act was acted on to start the new 5G concession Troncal Magdalena 1 (Puerto Salgar-Barrancabermeja). The total cost will be 3.8 billion pesos.

The project has around 13 functional units and contemplates 12 months for the pre-operational stage and a construction phase of 47 months. Taking these deadlines into account, the largest works will only begin until 2024, although there are already some open works fronts to recover the road.

«There is already a concession with work fronts prepared to maintain adequate transitability conditions during these first 12 months, but this has a progressive process,» he said. William Camargo, president of the ANI.

This concession obtained 118 kilometers of second carriageway and 147 kilometers of improvement and rehabilitation, in addition to 29 kilometers for eight variants to be built.

The 268 kilometers that are part of the 5G Trunk of Magdalena 2 (Sabana de Torres-Curumaní) also presents some shortcomings for the mobility of travelers. Its start act was also inaugurated in December and has a pre-construction stage of 18 months, with 10 functional units.

The other section that is pending from Ruta del Sol is the one that goes from Puerto Salgar to Villeta (Cundinamarca), which is part of the second wave of 5G concessions. The ANI is currently carrying out the restructuring of the project to define the best mechanism for its construction.

The concession includes 18 kilometers of construction of the dual carriageway (Villeta-Guaduas) and the rehabilitation of 60 kilometers of the existing road. It will have an investment of 4.7 billion pesos.
