Rappi denies alleged tax evasion before the DIAN – Companies – Economy

Last Wednesday the Colombian Association of the Gastronomic Industry (Acodes) announced that it had officially filed a complaint «for possible evasion» against the Rappi delivery platform before the office of the director of Dian, Luis Carlos Reyes Hernández.

According to the union, which brings together 10,000 restaurants across the country, the platform «is not advancing the respective consumption tax collection for the sales of food and beverages prepared in gastronomic establishments”.

In the document, signed by Guillermo Gómez París, executive president of Acodres, it is explained that it was the members of the association who made the respective complaints in recent weeks.

«The union was able to establish that this situation is contrary to what is established in the Tax Statute and It hurts both the level of income that the State should receive due to lack of consumption, and the low income that gastronomic establishments manage to receiveat a time when the pressure of inflation on costs does not allow them to obtain representatives despite the recovery in consumption after the pandemic,» the statement read.

In addition, the document establishes that «For each plate of $30,000 that Rappi sells, the tax authorities are failing to receive $560, endorsing gastronomic establishments an irregular charge of $1,840, when the platform will have to collect and report $2,400 for non-consumption”.

What did he reply to Rappi?

The forceful response from the platform did not wait: «Rappi does not market or buy to sell the products and services that users or consumers purchased on the ‘Rappi Platform’. In this sense, Rappi provides technological services to the users of its ecosystem».

He added that it respects «local regulations and invoices its services in accordance with current tax regulations» and that it fulfills its work as a contact portal which, he commented, It serves its commercial allies (restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, among others), to offer and market products and services.

Rappi has been in various controversies since his departure to Colombia.
