According to businessmen in the stationery and school supplies sector who are affiliated with the National Federation of Merchants (Fenalco) of Bogotá and Cundinamarca, school supplies will increase between 15 and 18 percent.

Which means that the average expense for the season is $350,000, not including texts or books. For preschool it could be around $360,000, for elementary school $222,000 and for high school the level of spending could be an average of $412,000.

Entrepreneurs say that among the reasons for the rise is the increase in the dollarinflation, global shortage of raw materials, transportation cost overruns and pressures on the logistics environment have directly impacted the manufacture, distribution and marketing of these products.

“Costs for our industry have risen 35 to 43 percent from the school season a year ago. However, the final consumer sees an increase between 15 and 18 percent reflected, ”he indicated.

They also said that many cheaper products can be counterfeit, contraband or made from other materials.
