He NIT is the tax identification number that the Directorate of National Taxes and Customs (DIAN) assigns both natural persons and managers, agents, retainers or declarants, when they are registered in the Single Tax Registry (RUT).

In serials for natural persons, the NIT will be the ID plus a verification digit and for legal ones this is established through a process with the DIAN and the corresponding chamber of commerce.

The display consists of nine digits and helps to carry out a detailed record of the tax obligations for which Colombians must respond.

In this sense, this number allows the “individualization of those registered, for all purposes in terms of taxes, customs and control, and, especially, for the fulfillment of obligations of the same nature”, according to the entity.
