In his recent interview with EL TIEMPO, the official detailed the importance of municipalities considering this alternative, in addition to encouraging them to propose other measures that also contribute to mobility. As an incentive, those municipalities that present the best solutions could receive a greater allocation of resources by the Nation or a priority in the allocation of funds.

Camargo also added that: “The municipalities that recommend the best sustainable mobility practices will be those that will have a greater allocation of resources or a priority allocation of resources and support from the Ministry, it is a matter of incentives“.

Likewise, the minister assured that the municipalities will have the freedom to implement this measure.

“If citizens do not assume a rational awareness regarding the use of road infrastructure -which is limited-, regarding the growth of the vehicle fleet and the increasingly high use of private vehicles, we are doing an exercise to the contrary“.

In addition, he asserted that this is”youn an exercise in pedagogy, which I know is difficult, but someone has to say it, because that is also where congestion problems ariseof the accident rate and the longer travel times, and the Ministry of Transport is the one that is complained the most that it is not doing its homework“.

Likewise, he said in the interview that his objective is “resources to deliver so that road safety, logistics and sustainable mobility can materialize“. Camargo stressed that implementing this measure It is an autonomous decision of the municipalities and that the ministry will only be in charge of providing the resources and incentives for them to apply.

Finally, the Minister of Transportation ruled out that this proposal is viable, since it should move the largest number of trips and is also competing for the use of space with private vehicles and motorcycles.

“It is very difficult for us to be efficient when in a road network in which 100 vehicles, 90 percent are cars and only 10 percent are public transportation vehicles. So it’s very difficult, it’s impossible“, said.
