Yesterday afternoon, the Board of Directors of the Colombian Federation of Livestock Farmers (Fedegán) met with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jhenifer Mojica, to discuss the contributions of the livestock sector in the national economy and the development of sustainable livestock in Colombia.
Added to these dialogues was the discussion on the progress of the land agreement between Fedegán and the National Government, an issue that, in recent days, has aroused the interest of different sectors and is part of the concerns derived from numeral five of article 61 of the National Development Plan which, according to the cattle union, threatens private property and contradicts the announcements of the Government to go to the purchase by voluntary offer of the lands.
In the framework of the talks, the minister clarified that The objective of the agrarian reform is not to expropriate the land, much less to violate the rights of the owners. In addition, he showed the Government’s interest in continuing to work hand in hand with the cattle union.
According to statements by Fedegán, Mojica took the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to the sector and stated that The Government is not going to apply this numeral that generates concern at the national level.
