This morning a letter was released that the mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero, sent to President Gustavo Petro asking him to give his authorization to Freeze the utility rate provided by EPM in different departments of the country.
This request arises from the decree that allowed the president to resume the functions of a general nature delegated to the Commission for the Regulation of Drinking Water and Basic Sanitation (CRA) and to the Energy and Gas Regulation Commission (Creg).

According to Quintero, this measure would be a respite for the inhabitants of Antioquia, Córdoba, Santander, Norte de Santander, Córdoba, Chocó, Cesar, Sucre and Magdalena where the Subsidiaries of the EPM Group provide public services.
In addition, he stated that he wanted to do the task of freezing service rates from his first days of government, which began in 2020, but the regulatory commissions had not allowed it.
However, the National Association of Public Services and Communications Companies (Andesco) assured that the request made by the mayor of Medellín to President Petro should be made before the EPM General Manager.
Therefore, it is the manager Jorge Andrés Carrillo who must analyze this proposal to freeze the rates, and if he finds it viable, he should present it and support it before the board of directors, which It is chaired by the mayor Daniel Quintero.

“It is very important to remember that Decisions should not be made that may jeopardize the provision of services and the financial sustainability of the companies, because in such a case, the users would be the most affected,” the union warned.
Likewise, it pointed out that decisions on cost and investment management are the exclusive recourse of each company within the framework of the regulations and processes established by the Commissions.
“We understand that Grupo EPM has the technical analyzes to take these measures and we hope that they will be carried out within the framework of said analyzes”, added Andesco.
