Less than five days before the deadline for responding to the appeals that Avianca and Viva filed for their integration process to be approved, Portfolio first known that the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aeronautics they reached a final decision, which consisted of the total annulment of the process.
“Here we are before an appeal of a decision denied from the integration, the change of administration came and when studying the appeal a procedural irregularity has been found that is going to be cleared with an annulment, rolling back the decisions from the beginning and decisions will be made with guarantees due process and of course quickly. We know the importance of a prompt decision, but also the effects of not taking it for the public treasury and for Aerocivil”, said sources close to the Ministry of Transport.

It is worth remembering that on November 8, the Civil Aeronautics Avianca’s request to join for various reasons, including that Viva did not show an imminent risk of its disappearance from the market and that its union would mean a majority position in the market, making free competition difficult.
After the decision Avianca appealed on November 23 the decision to object to the integration process.
Now airlines must start a process again if they want to continue with their intention to be part of the same business group.
