According to the data revealed by Dane on the Monthly Manufacturing Survey with Territorial Focus, in 2022 the real production of the industry grew 10.7 percent. Meanwhile, real sales increased 10.1 percent and employed personnel rose 4.3 percent.
Of the 39 industrial activities represented by the survey, 34 registered increases in their real production, adding 11.0 percentage points to the total variation for the year, while five subsectors reported a fall and subtracted 0.2 percentage points from the total variation.

The activities that contributed the most were manufacture of beverages, manufacture of clothing and the manufacture of other chemical, pharmaceutical and food products, paper, cardboard, soaps, and detergents.
The metropolitan area that contributed most positively to the variation in real production was that of the Aburra Valleywith a growth of 11.5 percent, adding 1.7 percentage points to the total national variation.
In just December 2022, manufacturing production presented a variation of 0.5 percent, while real sales grew 0.8 percent and employed personnel, 2.3 percent. There was a sharp slowdown from the data reported in November of 4.5 percent, 3.8 percent, and 2.7 percent, respectively.
Retail behavior
The Dane also revealed that in 2022 retail sales grew 10.2 percent compared to 2021. In this period, 18 merchandise lines registered positive variations in their sales, while the remaining line decreased the negative variation. .
The ones that contributed the most positively to trade were the fuels for motor vehicles and other motor vehicles and motorcycles, 2.2 and 1.7 percentage points, respectively. The only negative contribution will come from household cleaning products, with 0.2 percentage points and a fall of 6.9 percent.
In addition, companies dedicated to retail trade of vehicles new automobiles and fuel for automobiles contributing 4.7 percentage points.

When comparing 2022 with 2021, personnel employed by commerce decreased 3.3 percent, as a result of the 3.4 percent increase in permanent personnel, 2 percent in direct temporary personnel, and 7.6 percent in temporary personnel hired through companies. For apprenticeships there is a decrease of 1 percent.
However, the data reported for only December present a different behavior. During this month retail sales decreased 1.8 percentalthough employed personnel grew 4.2 percent compared to the same month in 2021. Excluding fuel trade, the fall in sales for the sector was 2.4 percent.
The greatest negative contributions came from the side of the household appliances, home furnishings; motor vehicles and motorcycles mainly for household use; and computer and telecommunications equipment for personal or domestic use, contributing 2.0 percentage points to the total variation in retail trade.
On the contrary, the main positive contributions occur in the lines of alcoholic beverages, cigars, cigarettes and tobacco products; personal hygiene products, cosmetics and perfumery; and spare parts, parts, accessories and lubricants for vehicles, contributing 0.9 percentage points.
