He President Gustavo Petro settled on Monday night the National Development Plan, which contains the objectives for the next four years and the budgets necessary to meet them. The project, among its 300 articles, contemplates the creation of a citizen income subsidy.

After the end of the Solidarity Income, only the subsidies of Families in Action, Youth in Action and aid for winter damage. However, Petro’s citizen income project seeks to create a subsidy of a higher value and for the most needy families.
Because the proposal was just filed within the National Development Plan and must be evaluated by Congress, its future is subject to what happened there. However, if approved, it could enter into force at the beginning of 2024.

The delivery of this money would be a charge of the Department of Social Prosperity and, according to the Government, the beneficiaries would be “households in a situation of poverty, extreme poverty and socio-economic vulnerability in order to contribute to overcoming poverty and promote mobility social”.
