Ecopetrol became the first South American member to sit on the board of the Hydrogen Council, a global initiative whose purpose is for hydrogen to foster the transition to clean energy.
The oil company joined the Hydrogen Council in June 2022. In total, there are 140 companies from 20 countries that are part of this initiative, considering that hydrogen plays a key role in global decarbonization goals by helping to diversify energy sources around the world.

As of January 1st, the board was made up of Air Liquide, Anglo American, Cummins, Ecopetrol, Engie, Faurecia, Hyundai Motor Group, Johnson Matthey, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Linde, Sasol, Shell, Sinopec, TotalEnergies and Toyota.

The president of Ecopetrol, Felipe Bayón, assured that «joining this directory represents a milestone for the company in the path of our low-carbon hydrogen plan, as a key element of the 2040 Strategy ‘Energy that transforms’, in addition to contributing to the advancement of Colombia’s hydrogen roadmap».
«We firmly believe that cooperation is essential to move forward decisively in the promotion of research, projects, investments and technologies towards a robust hydrogen economy”, he added.
