National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), recently pointed out that in June the annual inflation stood at 12.13%, compared to 12.36% in May of this year, therefore, the behavior of inflation in June had a decrease.
“In June 2023, the monthly variation of the CPI was 0.30%, the variation for the year to date was 6.15% and the annual variation was 12.13%.the Dane said in a press release.
Given this news, Piedad Urdinola, Director of Dane, spoke with Radio Colombia Today. In front of the microphones, they are sure that money will yield more to Colombians due to the fall in food prices.
“We collect every day, from all the cities of the country, the prices of everything that makes up the Colombian consumption basket and these are weighed -in turn- according to what is the national survey of the income of households and household expenses”, explained the official.

It should be remembered that in the month of June 2023 the annual variation of the CPI was 2.46 percentage points more than that reported in the same period of 2023, when it was 9.67 points.
“When we review, for this month of June we found that the city with the highest growth was Sincelejo (grew 0.70), followed by Bucaramanga (0.61) and then Florencia (0.56). But we already have cities that are decreasing, that have this negative index, as was Popayán, with -0.02”explained.
Therefore, he concluded that the slowdown in inflation will benefit all Colombians. “We are still having high annual levels (12.13) but this is going to be felt in the pockets. Especially since the component that is falling the most, and in effect is negative, which is where we felt the increase the most in the last months of last year, is in items and non-alcoholic beverages, ”he said.
The Dane had already indicated that the Food and non-alcoholic beverages division was the only one that decreased a negative monthly variation of -0.53%.
Regarding the price of fuels, I said that it has also been taken into account in the transportation division and it is the one that has presented the greatest variation, of 0.08.

“The Transportation division obtained a monthly variation of 1.08%, this being the highest monthly variation. In June 2023, the largest price increases were registered in the subclasses: fuel for vehicles (4.60%), tolls (1.70%) and inter-municipal transport (1.33%),” they announced in the press release.
“With the fall in food prices, without a doubt, silver will yield a little more to make a market,” He highlighted Urdiñola.

Finally, he said that the average of the expectations was that inflation would decrease by 0.37 and it was a little below, 0.30 for this month. “We are seeing a slowdown a little faster than expectations were predicting,” she said.
