After the meeting of the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, and representatives of cargo carriers in the country, it was concluded that the price of diesel will not change -after the rise of 57 pesos- but other reliefs will be studied for this sector.

“It is clear to us that the commitment to do not increase fuel rates until June of this year, since he explained to us that the increases that occurred were from a technical point of view,” said Arnulfo Cuervo Aguilera, vice president of Fedetranscarga.

(Also read: Gasoline hike not only erased relief in electricity rates but tripled it)

There will also be a new meeting next Thursday at 10:00 in the morning to study alternatives that help offset this increase in diesel and to maintain the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund (FEPC).

Among the possible reliefs that are going to be analyzed -and that are used by the transporters union- are a Reduction in the cost of Compulsory Traffic Accident Insurance (Soat) and not raise the costs of travel.

Minister of Transport and representatives of transporters.

The meeting is also expected to have the presence of representatives of the Presidential Council for the Regions, Invías and the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) to review what has been done regarding the state of the roads.

This is because concerns about the state of the roads that arise to transport vehicles and threats of accidents that exist on some highways in the country such as the Ruta del Sol that “require immediate repairs.”

Some alternatives will also be proposed to improve travel and safety on the roads. For this last point, the Ministry of Defense will be asked”more active protection measures for carriers so that there is peace of mind and confidence on the part of those who transport the country’s cargo along all our highways and highways,” said the minister.
