Dane Reveals December 2022 Unemployment Rate – Sectors – Economy

The National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) revealed that in December 2022 the unemployment rate it was 10.3 percent, that is, 0.8 percentage points below that presented in the same period of the previous year, when the data was 11.1 percent.

And in all of 2022 the rate stood at 11.2 percent, which represents a drop of 2.6 points compared to the figure of 13.8 percent in 2021.

What happened in 2022?

by sex, the unemployment rate for women was 14.3 percent in 2022 while that of men was 9.0 percent, that is, the difference was 5.3 points.

In 2022, the employed population of the country reached 22.0 million people, compared to the 20.4 million employed in 2021, which represents a variation of 8.0 percent.

By branches of activity, that of artistic activities, entertainment and recreation it had the highest increase in employment in 2022 with 272,000 more people compared to 2021. In turn, in the manufacturing industry the number of employees increased by 262,000 people.

According to the occupational position and at the national level, in 2022, the number of employed individuals increased by 1.2 million compared to the previous year, which represented a contribution of 5.9 points.

Meanwhile, the number of unemployed fell by 482,000 people compared to 2021, reflecting a 14.8 percent drop, thus reaching 2.8 million unemployed.

Regarding the population outside the labor force, the Dane revealed that it was 14.2 million people. This is a variation of -4.0 percent compared to what was registered in 2021 (14.8 million).

What happened in December 2022?

By sex, while among men the unemployment rate for December 2022 was 8.3 percent, for women it was 8.7 percent.

At the national level, the employed population reached 22.4 million, which means that there were 973,000 more jobs than in the same period of the previous year, when the figure was 21.4 million.

By branches of activity, the manufacturing industry it is the one that recovered the most jobs, with 973,000 more people working. It was followed by public administration and defense, education and health, with the involvement of 249,000 people due to the resumption of face-to-face activities and the category of artistic activities, entertainment and recreation, where 207,000 people entered.

Meanwhile, in December 2022 the number of unemployed was 2.57 million, that is, it fell by 111,000 people compared to the same period in 2021, when the data reached 2.68 million.

By sex, the reduction of the unemployed population in December 2022 it was higher in women (-91,000) than in men (-20,000). According to the age ranges, this

For her part, the inactive population or that is outside the labor force It was in December 2022 of 14.2 million people, which means a drop of 311,000 compared to the data of 14.5 million for the same period of the previous year.

Quibdó and Ibagué, with the highest rates

In the quarter-December 2022, the cities that registered the highest unemployment rates were Quibdó and Ibagué, with 26.3 and 16.5 percent, respectively.

On the contrary, the lowest unemployment rates were for Bucaramanga AM with 7.9 percent and Manizales AM, with 8.5 percent.
