Four entities, two private and two public, made a million-dollar bet to conserve one of the largest water sources in the country, the Chingaza páramoto which they will invest more than 5,700 million pesos in the next three years.

Bavaria, the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, the Government of Cundinamarca and the Santo Domingo Foundation joined forces around that purpose, which seeks to protect more than 2,100 hectares of this ecosystem.
The mobilization of these resources will be carried out within the framework of ‘miPáramo’, a program that has managed to protect more than 11,000 hectares of high Andean forest, a protective ecosystem of the páramo, and the planting of more than 400,000 native trees.

In this project, the neighboring communities of the region will play a fundamental role, and will join the more than 2,500 participants in the ‘miPáramo’ program in Guerrero and Santurbán.
«In this exercise, the communities neighboring this ecosystem will be the protagonists, receiving incentives to work on their land and at the same time guaranteeing the sustainability of the program, making it attractive from the income generation front for them,» he said.
