In Colombia, the cars and motorcycles they are an essential means of transportation for millions of people. However, the question arises as to whether these can be registered by more than one person.
According to the Resolution 4775 of 2009 of the Ministry of TransportationIn Colombia, only one person can be registered on the registration card, which is the «public document that contains the characteristics that identify the vehicle, accredits its ownership, and identifies its owner.»

Therefore, it is not possible for a car or motorcycle to be registered in the name of two or more people. The owner must be linked to the Single National Transit Registry (Runt).
This registration process will be carried out personally by the interested party with the identity document, if it is a natural person, and legal persons with the certificate of legal representation.

To confirm the identity, the fingerprint, the type and number of the document will be compared.

In both cases, the person will be required to print their fingerprint and sign the register. To confirm identity, the fingerprint, the type and number of the document will be compared with the data stored in the National Registry of Civil Status.
The registration card is of special importance as it accredits the owner of the private vehicle before the authorities. In addition, the Ministry of Mobility requires having it as essential requirement for vehicle transfer processes.
