The Avianca Aviators Union Organization (Odeaa) issued a statement stating that the airline would have ignored some agreements reached by the workers with the companyafter a year of negotiations to improve the working conditions of the pilots.

The union stated that, since 2020, the airmen decided to «support the process of
recovery of the company to guarantee its sustainability and keep their jobs».
In this sense, they would have reached agreements such as: lowering their salaries by up to 50%;
modify collectively agreed benefits; Temporarily withdrawing to the annual readjustment of CPI in 2020,2021 and subsequent years; and agree on 2% until 2024 (with inflation that in the country has already exceeded more than 25% accumulated since 2020).

«The decisions were made to ensure the existence of the company at that time of crisis, an objective that was far advanced and that led to the announcement of expansion plans, which are public knowledge,» the statement said.
The group of aviators highlighted that Avianca left Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Law in November 2021Therefore, «the recovery will take useful actions such as fleet acquisition, launch of new routes and reconfigurations that demonstrate the economic capacity of the airline.»

«After a year of conversations and technical tables, accompanied by international consultants of great recognition, and in which points of
meeting between the pilots (…) and Avianca, the company, surprisingly, decided on the last day of negotiations to ignore the joint agreements reached and the formal offers made by the airline’s senior management to the representatives of the aviators,» says the text.
Captain Diego Serrano, president of Odeaa, added that «despite the great efforts that all Avianca employees have made and the willingness that Odeaa has had to negotiate productivity compensation schemes that benefit the Union and the Company, we see It is with great surprise that dialogue and concertation are not a path through which agreements can be reached with the current administration.

The union added that «it will continue in the permanent and determined search for better conditions for the pilots, making use of the different actions contemplated in the
Constitution and the Law, in an effort to achieve compliance with labor rights
