Avianca withdrew this weekend from the integration with Viva Air, pointing out that the conditions of the Civil Aeronautics make it impossible to rescue that airline, which suspended its operations on February 27.

After Avianca’s withdrawal, Viva stated that «With deep pain that, without the possibility of financial support, the company no longer has the capacity to continue operating in the market.»
This Monday, Aerocivil stated that it will focus its efforts on the people who were affected by the suspension of operations of the airline Viva Air.

“The data shows a resilient demand that attracts airlines to fill the offer spaces ceded by Viva Air and thus continue to increase the dynamics that allow us to return to the path of growth”, he said.
Furthermore, he said that in El Dorado airport the access of new airlines, tourist connectivity and a balance from the consensus of the visions of the aeronautical ecosystem must be allowed in the allocation of slots.
This is what the Aerocivil statement says:
1. For Civil Aeronautics, the Colombian air transport market is robust and solid. The data shows a resilient demand that attracts airlines to supply the supply spaces ceded by Viva Air and thus continue increasing the dynamics that allow them to return to the path of growth.
2. With the necessary assistance from other government authorities, Aerocivil will focus its efforts on the people who were affected by the suspension of operations of the airline Viva Air, through user protection schemes.

3. Aerocivil supports the initiatives of current and future operators that promote the human talent of Colombian aviation, through relocation and linking with their airlines.

4. El Dorado Airport, an asset for Colombians and essential in social, national and international connectivity, must allow access for new airlines, tourist connectivity and a balance from the consensus of the visions of the aeronautical ecosystem in the offer of slots.
5. Civil Aeronautics will ensure the guarantee of fair, attractive and competitive conditions for investment, focused on the stability of the sector and maintaining the commitment to the social function of property, as ordered by the National Constitution, by strengthening the Regulations Aeronautics of Colombia (RAC).
6. The Aerocivil will modify the scope of the decision-making body of the aviation projects, will carry out connectivity tables, will facilitate the processes of incorporation of new aircraft and will review the aeronautical strategic plan 2030 to protect the sector, promote connectivity, competitiveness and competition.

7. It is important to mention that the Entity carried out the process requested for the aforementioned air operations in compliance with the law and in accordance with its role as competition authority for this type of operation. This is how the integration was authorized based on conditions that protect the collective interest, based on those remedies that were offered at the initiative of Avianca and Viva Air as an alternative for their union.

8. When resolving the appeal, the Secretariat of the Aeronautical Authority of the Civil Aeronautics made the conditions more flexible in order to enable the continuity of Viva Air within an integrated organization, respecting the rights of passengers and the minimum scenarios required to guarantee an environment of competition and user protection.
